UNM Women’s Club Soccer offers UNM students the opportunity to play competitive, collegiate soccer. The club will be participating in the NIRSA (National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association) Regional Conference. Players still represent the school and travel within the region for tournaments and matches while also competing on home turf. The club welcomes students from diverse backgrounds in both the undergraduate and graduate level. At UNM Women’s soccer club, we are playing the sport we love and building a strong community and friendships that last throughout our academic careers.
The club was established in the Fall of 2019 by Freshman twin sisters who wanted to continue playing competitive soccer after high school. With assistance from the newly established Men’s Soccer Club, the UNM Club Sports Coordinator, UNM Student Activities Center, and the club faculty advisor, the twin sisters, who are now the Co-presidents of the club, completed the charter and constitution. When the club was launched, an executive board quickly formed with a Vice President and Treasurer. Soon after, when the word got out, multiple players with the same desire to play competitive soccer joined the team in a matter of a month, and practices were being held with over 15 players. In the 2nd month of being established, a coach was able to commit to coaching the team through Spring 2020. In the first season, the team played four games, against Fort Lewis College and New Mexico Tech, two home and two away, and went undefeated. In the Spring of 2020, the club played tougher competition against Northern Arizona University and had their first team road trip to Lubbock TX to compete against Texas Tech, and the club is continuing to grow.
We are always looking for new talented players to join the club! If you are a UNM student who loves the game, we encourage you to tryout . Tryouts are held every Fall and Spring Semester. Practices are held at least twice a week and games are mainly on weekends. The games are either played locally, or out of state.
